This course was created for my Doctoral Capstone Project in aquatic therapy. The course covers information regarding my doctoral capstone component that included my learning objectives, basic pool knowledge, and provides a wide variety of aquatic therapy intervention examples in order to influence professionals to utilize the pool for treatment when appropriate. I took an aquatic therapy course in 2020 in order to prepare for this experience and have some background knowledge in the water. During my capstone experience, I realized first-hand how under utilized the aquatic environment is, especially for occupational therapists. There are many barriers that prevent them from attempting to get their patient's in the pool even if they would benefit from aquatics. One barrier several reported was the lack of education in this area. My hope is that this course with be utilized to increase the amount of occupational therapists that choose to engage in aquatic therapy with their patients. My goal from this presentation is that individuals will understand my capstone objectives and artifacts, recognize precautions and contraindications of aquatics, identify when it is appropriate to bring someone into the aquatic environment, understand water properties and pool knowledge, and be provided water interventions to do with patients during treatment.
