In this course we will discuss the academic concepts as found in the book Things Fall Apart and though an academic angle will be used in presenting the concepts, this course is intended to meet the levels of all learners who understand the English language. All discussions and concepts are simplified so all may understand them. In this course we will look at the following:

- Plot ( Exposition/ rising action/ climax/ falling action/ Resolution)

-Themes as presented in the book

-Settings (how they are strategically used to further convey the message of the author)

- Summary (to assist those who may have read the book a while back)

-Controversial issues discussed following the book (e.g. how women are treated, spirituality etc)

In this course you will also receive Prof Chinua Achebe's Top 10 Views following some of the interviews he has attended.

The leading characters in the book include Okonkwo, the main character. He is a man we grow to love and appreciate and is also described as a man with some flaws. He is in keen interest to establish an identity separate from the one of his drunkard father. He applies himself fully and is indeed awarded for his efforts and hardwork. In the story however, we also learn how even such a strong and determined man may be brought to a downfall due to not allowing himself to learn from wisdom given by others wiser than him. His very strengths also contribute to his downfall in the end.
