DescriptionMy name is Lacie Sleezer and I am currently a 3rd year occupational therapy entry level doctoral student at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. This course today will cover my doctoral capstone experience I have been completing during the last 14-weeks of my occupational therapy education. My capstone was completed working on inpatient behavioral health units for adults and older adults. The title of my capstone project is advanced clinical experience and evidence-based practice in an inpatient behavioral health setting. The topics of this course include advanced clinical experience in an inpatient behavioral health setting, occupational therapy's role working with adults and children/youth with mental health diagnoses and the term interoception and how it relates to emotional regulation. By the end of this session you will be able to understand how barriers affect client’s to successfully transition out of the hospital, identify occupational therapy’s role in mental health services for both adults and youth, both in general as well as in inpatient behavioral health settings and be able to describe the benefits of interoception and how interoception related to emotional regulation. By the end of this presentation, I hope you will be able to take the information learned and apply it to your professional life as an occupational therapist.
